CIT
Customer Initiated TransactionSubscriptions
A transaction initiated by the cardholder, they actively complete checkout or authorise a charge. The default transaction type at first purchase. Must be properly flagged when stored for later use, so that follow-up charges can be classified as MIT.
In practice.
Flagging a transaction as customer-initiated matters because issuers score CIT and MIT differently. A renewal wrongly flagged as CIT tends to fail SCA checks in Europe, while a first payment wrongly flagged as MIT invites declines. Correct CIT and MIT flagging is one of the cheapest approval-rate fixes available.
