The acquiring reality

What actually decides your file.

MiCA is the baseline now

MiCA replaced the patchwork of national VASP regimes in the EU, and the transitional period for existing national VASPs ended on 1 July 2026. Among EU acquirers, MiCA authorization has become the baseline expectation for underwriting crypto merchants.

Legacy VASPs face narrowing pools

Lithuania and Estonia registrations opened doors pre-MiCA. Acquirer acceptance of legacy national regimes keeps narrowing, which changes who will underwrite you and at what price.

The licence moves the price

MiCA-authorized operators typically land at 0.5 to 2.5% IC++ markup with 5 to 15% reserves, and access tier-one relationships that legacy regimes never opened.

Licensing

Estonia VASPNarrowDramatically tightened since 2022. Surviving licensees are substantive operators, and acquirers know it.

How we place it

The BZNpay playbook for crypto and web3.

01

Regulatory mapping

We match your authorization, MiCA or national, to acquirers whose crypto policy explicitly covers it, instead of testing appetite by rejection.

02

Flow documentation

On-ramp flows, custody arrangements, Travel Rule compliance and AML programme, packaged the way crypto underwriters review them.

03

Card plus local rails

Card acceptance for the checkout, with local methods and corridors routed to the partners who price them best.

Prepare your file

What partners typically ask crypto and web3 merchants for.

  • MiCA authorization or national VASP registration
  • AML programme and Travel Rule compliance
  • UBO declarations
  • Flow of funds documentation
  • Processing history if any

Send what you have; we tell you plainly what is missing. KYB documents are requested after qualification, through a secure channel, and underwriting decisions rest with the acquiring partner.

Crypto and Web3 questions.

Do you work with operators that are not yet MiCA-authorized?

Yes. Locally licensed VASPs are placed with specialist acquirers whose policies cover their regime. For EU-facing volume, acquirers increasingly condition on a MiCA transition, and we will tell you plainly how that affects your shortlist.
