KYB

Know Your BusinessCompliance

The merchant equivalent of KYC. The acquirer's process to verify a merchant's legal identity, beneficial ownership, business model, and licensing before opening a merchant account. Mandatory under AML/CTF rules; requires articles of incorporation, UBO declarations, financial statements, and licence copies.

In practice.

KYB is the business-level counterpart of KYC: verification of the company, its registration, its directors and its ownership chain. Most onboarding delays trace back to KYB gaps such as unclear shareholding or missing corporate documents, which is why a complete corporate pack speeds up every placement.
